Clutch pedal has too much travel?

Post by Terra1936 » Mon Jun 14th, 2010 10:18

As I have been driving I notice my clutch pedal is creeping. I now push it 2/3 of the way to disengage the clutch when I shift. I am not grinding gears but pushing pedal all the way to the floor. I looked at the service manual and it says 1" of free play on pedal? Is this an adjustment issue or am I in for bigger problems? I have not crawled under the car yet as I am in denial. If you have experienced this before or know what it is please let me know.

The first thing to check is the adjustment rod. The locking nut may have come loose.
There are several adjustments under there. Take a few minutes and follow the manual. It shouldn't be a big deal.

I made the adjustment last night and good to go. I did notice the fixture that comes out from the frame with the grease fitting slides from side to side with play in it? Is that normal? It is attached to the trans with a bracket, but seems like it's not right? If I slide it away from the frame the fresh grease is exposed. If anyone knows? Thanks

The stationary side of that piece should have a retaining clip that prevents it from sliding side to side. It may have some play, but not much.

Any idea of what to look for? I do not see a clip or space for it. Is there a photo in a service manual or ? Thanks

I've attached a couple of pics of my spare. Maybe these will help.
If you need these parts, I believe Andy Berbaum carries them.
