Speedometer

Post by mustanger7up » Sun Aug 9th, 2009 10:30

I took the old girl out last night and the speedometer fell off inside the glass on the dash. It made an awful noise then started spinning around at about 1000 MPH then fell off. Is that something I can take apart and fix or will I need to get it repaired at a shop? She ran like a top and so quiet with the new exhaust.
Before the speedometer totally broke it would bounce around from 30 to 80 MPH even though I was doing around 55 or so. And it appears I have a small leak around the steering box I just need to clean it to find it through all the grease and dirt.

It might be easier and cheaper to look for another speeedo head on ebay. There is always at least one for sale. As for the leak in the steering box, that will be a good winter project to take it out and rebuild it with new gaskets and seals.

you can take the speedo off and apart it is easy and to get it to stop bouncing around use grease and pack it into the speedo cable housing that runs to the transmition its easy to do but takes a little of time and that will keep it from jumping around on you

If AOHell would let me I would email you, but I can never get anything in to AOL. I have tried for years and it always kicks it back to me. Do you use yahoo Messenger? or you could email me at mustanger7up@yahoo.com and we could talk. I have no parts to trade, I just got the car and it only came with 3 extra hubcaps.
Thanks Ritchie, Kelly
