Cruisin'

Post by Root Beer Stand » Thu Jul 17th, 2008 5:38

Did some trading and got me a 49 Special D
51 K, Seats almost like new, body and paint real good, runs pretty good (tune up needed for sure), radio, fuel guage and generator all not working but...........Having fun!
Put 100 + miles on her in a couple weeks with the grandkids while working on the minor things when time permits.
Never going to be a show car but looking forward to visiting every remaining Root Beer Stand for 50 miles with the kids!

My fuel gauge didn't work either. I had to fix the float in the gas tank. There's a nice easy access to it in the trunk, watch out for the retainer ring it can be a pain. I had to pull my tank because the ring was stuck. I think I paid $50 to get my generator rebuilt and the same place did the voltage regulator and starter.

If you do take it to a car show I guarantee that folks will be checking it out. Let's see some pics!

Think it has been repainted or touched up many years ago. Found some overspray on one side window but 100% sure it is the original color.
Been in almost every spot on the car and and everthing in the same color.

What color is the trunk painted? Are the fender-wells (inside the trunk) painted the same color as the body is or are they painted steel-grey? The steel-grey color is the original color.

It's a weird color, like a steel gray with a little green in it.

That's the stock color I'm pretty sure. There were very very few (if any) that ever came from the factory with the trunk painted body color.
