Vacuum wiper motor linkages

Post by Astron 1949 » Mon Aug 22nd, 2011 8:17

Hi again,
All rewiring completed and no smoke :D =D>

Now for another issue. A new vacuum wiper motor was purchased, BUT, as the old one, complete with the detached linkage arms was in the trunk :!: I've no idea how they hook up to the arm of the motor. I have tried numerous combinations of placing the linkage arms in various configurations, however I cannot get it right. When the motor goes to park, the wiper arm/blade "parks" in the vertical position on the windscreen. If I relocate the wiper arm to a different position on the spline, the wiper cleans the hood, lol.

Any assistance with configuration (picture(s) would be great), would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Fred.

dj, thank you very much for the diagram. Good job I can read backwards though  (I had to write backwards on a "tote" board while in the RAF :P )

I "think" I have found my issue. The original motor had a shallow Vee shaped crank (where you attach the two pivot mechanisms to) whereas on the 'new' unit, the crank is straight. I was never very good at geometry at school so at 1st I was not concerned with the difference
Today I replaced the new crank with the old (V shaped) one.
Epoxyed the sucker on the spindle  Tomorrow will either prove me right or wrong, stay tuned :)

Thanks again, cheers, Fred.
